George Nakashima

George Nakashima (1905-1990) was born in 1905 in Washington, USA to Japanese immigrants, he is one of the most famous figures of the American Craft Studio movement. In 1945, He opened his woodworking business simply using the skills he had learned as an Eagle Scout, as an architect in the Far East, and as a woodworker in the Idaho desert. In 1951, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) dedicated an exhibition to him and he received the Gold Medal of Craftsmanship from the American Institute of Architects in 1952. His work will never die and his daughter Mira continues her father’s legacy to this day.
