Using as thin wood materials as possible; not hiding structures but showing them as a part of design: these eliminations created the affluent appearance with the carefully selected wood grain and color contrast in wood between the base and upper frame.
The base frame is thin and colored darker, which makes the seat part look light and floating. The arm board is made of solid-wood pieces in different sizes to create individuality. In the case of upholstery with leather, a piping edge is available as an option

Motomi Kawakami

Motomi Kawakami was born in Hyogo prefecture in 1940. He graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. (Majored in Industrial Design) in 1964 and in 1966 finished his Master course. In 1966-1969 He started his professional practice at Angello Mangiarotti Architect Office in Milan and established Kawakami Design Office in Tokyo in 1971. He is a visiting professor at the universities in Japan. With his design work specializes in product, interior, space and environmental design, he collaborates in local industry promotion projects and professional education.
