CondeHouse founder Minoru Nagahara believed that the scars and scratches of wood were beautiful because they were the proof that wood survived in the harsh nature, saying wood with such natural marks are the most beautiful thing in the world. IPPONGI collection is furniture which craftsmen preserve all scars on wood and turn such unique wood into masterpieces.
*Strong wood characters such as knots are intentionally left as a design feature, but requests for wood characters are not acceptable.

Minoru Nagahara

Minoru Nagahara

Minoru Nagahara was born in Hokkaido, Japan in 1935. He entered Kumasaka Kogei, a furniture company in 1951. In 1963, he went to West Germany as a technical trainee. After returning to Asahikawa in 1965, he worked for Asahikawa Industrial Arts Institute. In 1968, he established Interior Center Co., Ltd. (present Conde House). He is now the company’s chairman of the board of directors. He received of numerous awards: the Japan Interior Designers’ Association Award, the Kitaro Kunni Industrial Design Award, the Hokkaido Industrial Contribution Award, and the Hokkaido Shimbun Cultural Award.
