Maruni

Japanese furniture maker Maruni strikes a similar chord to the more well-known Danish brands Carl Hansen & Søn and PP Møbler. Since it was founded in 1928, Maruni has balanced traditional woodworking and handicraft techniques with modern innovations. It was one of the first companies in Japan to produce bentwood furniture, as well as one of the first to industrialize artisan-quality furniture finishing through developing its own machinery and production processes. Today, Maruni continues to hone its technical skill by working with some of the world’s leading industrial designers, including Naoto Fukasawa and Jasper Morrison, to create understated, elegant pieces such as the notable Hiroshima Chair.
